Strawbery Banke welcomes families to step into the past in-person and virtually for learning and discovery in the historic neighborhood of Puddle Dock. Explore traditional arts and crafts such as basket weaving and woodworking, learn how to write a historical fiction book, solve mysteries using documents, images, and objects, and so much more!

  • A History of Thanksgiving for Homeschoolers

    Discover how Thanksgiving transcended time, place and culture to become the uniquely American holiday celebrated today. Try old-fashioned cooking, talk with costumed roleplayers and make a Victorian charity basket. In small groups guided by a museum educator, participants find the common themes of this holiday over four centuries: charity, gratitude and the celebration of family and community. Designed for children ages 6-12. Those ages 6 to 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult. 9-12 year olds can participate without an accompanying adult.

    Price: $15.00 for first student, 10% off each additional student.

  • Winter Celebrations Tour

    Wednesday, January 7, 2026
    Tour times: 9–11 AM, 10 AM–12 PM, 12–2 PM, 1–3 PM

    Explore winter holiday traditions in New England. This interactive tour explores the history of winter holidays in New England. Participants craft a take-home ornament, decorate a Christmas tree in Victorian style, uncover immigrant traditions from the turn of the century, and learn about the challenges of celebrating Christmas during World War II.

    Designed for ages 6–12. An adult must accompany ages 6–8.

    $15 for the first student, 10% off each additional.

  • Rebels & Revolutionaries: A Virtual Program

    Wednesdays, January 14, 21, 28 & February 4, 2026
    10–11 AM

    Examine pivotal moments in the nation’s founding using primary sources and historical readings. Classes emphasize placing events in context, understanding how historians gather and interpret evidence, and examining the past from multiple perspectives. Along the way, students sharpen their research skills and build confidence in sharing their own interpretations and ideas.

    Designed for ages 10+.

    $40 for the first student, $20 each additional.

  • Writing History: A Virtual Program

    Wednesdays, February 11, 18, 25 & March 4, 2026
    10–11 AM

    Discover the art of creative writing through the lens of history. Guided by a professional author, homeschoolers sharpen their writing skills, explore real historical primary and secondary sources, and expand their imaginations. By the end of the month, each student will have either a polished piece of writing or the first chapter of a book to continue at home.

    Designed for ages 10+.

    $40 for the first student, $20 each additional.

  • Journey Into Colonial Life

    Wednesday, March 18, 2026
    9:30 AM - 12 PM

    Step into the past using a book as your time machine! Hear an amusing story of a colonial boy’s day in Williamsburg, VA. Experience his life as you participate in kitchen chores in front of an open hearth, make old-fashioned tooth powder, dress up and simulate a stagecoach ride, and play an 18th-century school game. Visit three historic homes as they compare and contrast daily life 200 years ago to daily life today.

    Designed for ages 5-10.

    $15.00 per student, 10% off each additional child. One adult per family group is allowed to attend.

  • Living on Turtle Island: Abenaki Heritage Past and Present

    Wednesday, March 18, 2026
    12:30PM - 3 PM

    Discover New Hampshire’s Indigenous heritage by exploring Abenaki culture! Try storytelling, learn how to care for New England’s natural resources, build a wigwam, make delicious pemmican, and play a traditional guessing game.  Students will visit three historic buildings, including the People of the Dawnland exhibit. Topics include cultural traditions, New Hampshire history, geography, foodways, communication, and conservation.

    Designed for ages 7-11. 

    $15.00 per student, 10% off each additional child. One adult per family group is allowed to attend.

Industry & Invention Homeschool Day

Wednesday, April 29, 2026
10 AM - 2 PM

Experience an age of innovation, invention, and rapid change. Join Museum experts and educators for hands-on workshops for ages 5-12+ that bring 19th-century life to vivid detail. Homeschool participants can also enjoy a variety of engaging drop-in activities throughout the site including learning about Morse Code, playing The Mansion of Happiness, and practicing calligraphy with pen and ink.

Workshops:
$15.00 per workshop. 10% off each additional workshop or for each additional child registered. One adult per family is admitted free. Extra adults will be charged $10.00 at the door.

  • Victorian Dress Up and Play Workshop

    Hear a read-aloud of Fannie in the Kitchen by Deborah Hopkinson, then dress up in 19th-century clothes and play in a Victorian garden. Designed for ages 5-9.

  • Tea with Mrs. Goodwin Workshop


    Session 1: 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM
    Session 2: 12:30 PM - 1:15 PM

    Take part in a fancy tea party hosted by Mrs. Goodwin. Make sun tea, decorate a fan to bring home, and learn Victorian manners. Designed for ages 5-9.

  • Victorian Cooking Workshop

    Experience how the Industrial Revolution transformed daily life as you cook a Victorian-era recipe on a cast-iron stove and explore historic homes for inventions of the age. Designed for ages 8-12.

  • Victorian Basket Weaving


    Session 1: 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM
    Session 2: 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

    Join our friendly and knowledgeable Museum Instructors to learn the steps of basket-making from scratch. Each child will take home their own Victorian basket at the end of the workshop. Designed for ages 8-12. 

  • Tracing Technology Walking Tour


    10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

    Join a Museum expert for a walking tour through three 19th-century houses to discover how the inventions and innovations of the Industrial Revolution impacted residents’ everyday lives. Designed for ages 12+.
